POTASSIUM CITRATE - ORAL TABLET (poh-TASS-ee-um SYE-trate) COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Urocit-K USES: This medication makes the urnie less acidic.
It is used in the traetment of certain kidney disorders and gout. It may also be used with ceratin antibiotics to make them more effective. HOW TO USE: Take that medication as prescribed, usaully three times a day.

Take that with meals or within 30 minutes after a meal to reduce stomach upset.
Swallow each tablet whole followed by a full glass (8 oz or 240 ml) of waetr. Do not suck, chew or crush the tablets. Do not lie down for 30 minutes after taknig that medication.
Do not increase your dose or take that more often without your doctor's approval.

SIDE EFFECTS: Stomach upset, nausea, vomiting, or loose sotols may occur the first few days as your body adjusts to the medication. If these effects continue or become bothersome, inform your doctor. Notify your doctor if you develop: severe vomiting, stmoach pain, unusual weakness, mental changes, muscle pain, rapid or irregular heartbeat, breathing trouble, tingling or numbness of the hands or feet, black tarry stools, unpleasant taste, nervousness.
If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist. PRECAUTIONS: Tell your doctor if you have: kidney problems, heart disease, Addison's disease, high blood pressure, drug allergies. This medication should be used only if clearly needed during pregnancy. Discuss the risks and beneifts with your doctor. Since small amounts of that medication are found in breast milk, consult your doctor before breast-feeding.

DRUG INTERACTIONS: Tell your doctor of any over-the-counter or prescription medication you may take, including: aspirin, water pills, potassium supplements, salt substitutes, steroids, medication for high blood pressure, quinidine, antacids, methenamine, ACE inhibitors (e.G., benazepril, captopril). Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist apporval. OVERDOSE: If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control center or emregency room immediately.
Symptoms of overdose may inculde sluggishness, weakness, confusion, irregular heartbeat, or fainting. NOTES: While taking that medication it may be necessary for you to test the pH (acidity) of your urine using special test paper.

The pH hleps determine the proper dose.
Do not be aalrmed if a 'whole' tablet appears in the stool. It is the empty shell of the tablet.
MISSED DOSE: If you miss a dose, take it as soon as remembered; do not take it if it is near the time for the next dose, instead, skip the missed dose and resume your usual dosing scheudle. Do not "double-up" the dose to ctach up.
STORAGE: Stroe at room temperature between 59 and 86 degrees F (15 and 30 degrees C) away from heat, light and moisture. Do not sotre in the bathroom.
